The General Elements of a VaKE Course
In VaKE course, learners learn just as much or more as in traditional classes. In addition, they develop a better understanding of values. It is possible to conduct VaKE with learners in all different ages and settings, and it can be adapted to the needs of the learners. The general elements of a VaKE course are:
- Starting with a dilemma story or problem of everyday life:
- cognitive conflict, personal interest, personal involvement,
- social context, affective and emotional touch
- Finding the personal point of view / reflection
- Deciding what protagonist should do
- Looking for information to strengthen the own argumentation
- Exchanging information
- Taking the opposite point of view
- Finding arguments for the opposite point of view
- Finding a joint conclusion
- Identifying links to related issues
